Authentic and Delicious Kadi Pakora Recipe

Kadi Pakora is a popular North Indian dish that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a delicious combination of deep-fried pakoras (fritters) made of gram flour and a tangy yogurt-based gravy. Ingredients: For Pakoras:

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized potato, peeled and grated
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

For Kadi:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 2 tbsp gram flour (besan)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
  • 2-3 dried red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

For Pakoras:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add gram flour, chopped onion, grated potato, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste.
  2. Mix well and add enough water to make a thick batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
  4. Drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown.
  5. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

For Kadi:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together yogurt, gram flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste.
  2. In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and dried red chillies.
  3. Once the seeds start to splutter, add the yogurt mixture and stir continuously.
  4. Add water and mix well to make a smooth consistency.
  5. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Add the pakoras to the kadi and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread.
